While Cyclone Montha has diminished into a well-marked low-pressure area, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that it will still deliver heavy rainfall to several districts across West Bengal until Saturday, November 1, 2025.
An IMD bulletin indicates that this weather system, currently situated over south Chhattisgarh, is expected to continue its northward movement towards east Madhya Pradesh, where it will weaken further.
North Bengal is particularly anticipated to experience intense downpours, with predictions of heavy to very heavy rain (7-20 cm) in isolated locations within Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar. Additionally, areas such like Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, and Dakshin Dinajpur are expected to receive 7-11 cm of precipitation on Friday.
Heavy rainfall is projected to persist in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar through Saturday. The IMD has issued a critical warning for potential landslides in the hilly terrains of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, attributing this risk to the heavy precipitation.
Meanwhile, the south Bengal districts of Birbhum, Murshidabad, Paschim Bardhaman, and Purulia are also slated for heavy rainfall until Friday. Other regions in south Bengal should prepare for light to moderate showers.
