An unconfirmed CCTV video has emerged, allegedly showing the motorcycle involved in the recent Kurnool bus accident at a petrol station just moments before the crash. The incident tragically resulted in the deaths of 20 people, including the biker.
The biker has been identified as Shivasankar. Social media users sharing the footage suggest that Shivasankar appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, based on his behavior in the CCTV clip. The video, timestamped at 2:22 AM on October 24, depicts two individuals on a motorcycle at a petrol pump. At one point, one of them is seen pushing the bike before riding away, momentarily losing balance upon sudden acceleration but managing to regain control.
It is important to note that the police have not yet officially confirmed the authenticity of this CCTV footage, and Hindustan Times has also been unable to independently verify its accuracy.
However, the timestamp in the video appears to align with the timeline of the Kurnool bus tragedy, which occurred around 2:30-3:00 AM on Friday. Preliminary reports, as also mentioned by a Deccan Chronicle report, suggest Shivasankar may have been intoxicated. He was among the 20 victims of the devastating bus accident on the outskirts of Kurnool.
Authorities have registered a case against the two drivers of the Bengaluru-bound private bus, citing negligence and overspeeding in connection with the fatal fire. This case stems from a complaint filed by one of the survivors. The bus caught fire in the early hours of Friday after colliding with the motorcycle. Reports indicate the motorcycle’s fuel cap was open at the time of impact.
Further complicating the investigation, the second bus driver, Siva Narayana, initially claimed heavy rain had reduced visibility, causing the collision. He later changed his statement, suggesting the motorcycle and rider were already on the road from a prior accident, and the bus unknowingly drove over them, initiating the fire. This conflicting information is according to an Indian Express report.
