Two excise constables were unfortunately injured on Wednesday after being attacked by a group of villagers. The incident occurred in Alipur Thanda, part of the Kadiri mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district, where residents were allegedly involved in the illegal brewing of liquor.
The confrontation began when an excise team arrived to conduct raids, acting on intelligence about extensive illicit liquor production within the hamlet. During their inspection, local residents, who are believed to be engaged in the clandestine distillation of country-made alcohol, aggressively confronted the officials. The situation escalated rapidly, with the mob using sticks to assault two of the constables.
The injured officers, identified as Venkata Prasad and Venkata Narayana, were immediately transported to the Kadiri Government Hospital to receive medical attention for their injuries.
In the aftermath, senior excise officials have strongly denounced the assault, issuing a clear warning that severe legal measures will be taken against all individuals implicated in the attack. Following an official complaint, additional police units have been deployed to Alipur Thanda and its surrounding areas to maintain order and prevent any further unrest. A formal case has been filed, and a dedicated special team has been assembled with the task of identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
