The family of Dr. Kritika Reddy, a 28-year-old dermatologist, has come forward with serious allegations against her husband, Dr. Mahendra Reddy, claiming he murdered her by administering a fatal dose of anesthesia through IV injections. The family asserts that Dr. Reddy was involved in an extra-marital relationship, which may have served as a motive for the alleged crime.
Dr. Kritika’s sister, Dr. Nikhita, revealed their suspicions began immediately after Kritika’s death. She stated, “We insisted on a postmortem, but Mahendra staged an emotional drama saying he couldn’t bear to see her body being cut.” Dr. Nikhita further alleged that her sister was given unnecessary medications and drips despite being in good health. The family also shared that while they treated Dr. Mahendra as their own son, they later discovered his extramarital involvement.
According to police, Dr. Mahendra Reddy is accused of injecting propofol, a potent anesthetic, into his wife under the pretense of providing medical treatment at their residence in Marathahalli. Preliminary findings suggest the injection was deliberately administered to end her life. Detectives are currently reviewing call records, financial transactions, and forensic evidence to establish the full motive, and further arrests are possible as the investigation progresses.
Adding to the accusations, Dr. Nikhita mentioned that Dr. Mahendra Reddy had discouraged Dr. Kritika from opening her own clinic, which was intended to help underprivileged patients. She also noted that he had been reluctant to officially register their marriage.
The family’s decision to demand a postmortem, despite Dr. Mahendra Reddy’s initial distress and objections, proved crucial in uncovering the truth. “He acted as if he was heartbroken and emotionally shattered, convincing us not to put her body through postmortem. But we demanded it, and later, the truth started to unfold,” Dr. Nikhita shared.
In a poignant tribute to Dr. Kritika’s philanthropic spirit, her family has donated the house where she died to ISKCON, fulfilling her wish to do good for others.
Victoria Hospital, where Dr. Mahendra Reddy previously practiced, issued a statement clarifying that he had resigned several months prior. The hospital confirmed he was a certified gastro surgeon and had completed his fellowship in March, working on a contract basis until July 2, 2025.
Authorities are exploring various angles, including the alleged affair, financial matters, and premeditated intent in their ongoing investigation. “It is premature to come to any conclusion about the motive. We will unearth it once the probe is completed,” stated DCP Parashuram.
