In a powerful editorial, Vellappally Natesan, the General Secretary of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, has unequivocally called for the dismantling of all Devaswom boards. His demand, published in the Yogam’s official mouthpiece, Yoganadam, stems from deep concerns over alleged corruption and mismanagement within these bodies.
Natesan’s article didn’t hold back, stating, “All five Devaswom boards are entangled in a web of corruption and plunder. The recent controversy surrounding the Sabarimala gold heist has plunged both the government and the Devaswom boards into a profound crisis.”
He further highlighted that the continued operation of the Travancore Devaswom Board and other boards is solely due to the Kerala High Court’s intervention. Natesan urged for a complete overhaul of the existing system, advocating for a new administrative framework. This proposed structure would see responsibilities entrusted to competent civil service officers, with strategic inclusion of political figures to ensure balance and representation.
Among his key proposals, the SNDP Yogam general secretary suggested a significant reduction in the number of Devaswom boards, aiming for a maximum of two. Additionally, he emphasized the critical need for a dedicated Minister whose sole portfolio would be Devaswom affairs, ensuring focused attention and governance for religious institutions.
