In a powerful start to Uttar Pradesh’s Mission Shakti 5.0 campaign, over 2,500 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been lodged and close to 3,900 individuals arrested across the state. This significant drive, initiated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the first day of Navratra, demonstrates a strong commitment to public safety, officials announced on Saturday, October 5, 2025.
At its core, Mission Shakti 5.0 seeks to empower women through self-reliance, seamless social integration, and robust security. A statement from the Uttar Pradesh government highlighted that this ambitious statewide initiative has seen police dramatically scale up their efforts to ensure women’s safety and build greater community trust.
Padmaja Chauhan, the Additional Director General (ADG) for the Women and Child Security Wing and nodal officer for Mission Shakti, reported that specialized Anti-Romeo Squads have significantly ramped up surveillance. Their vigilant presence can be seen across various public areas, including bustling temples, local markets, modern malls, and serene parks, ensuring a safer environment for everyone.
Throughout the campaign period, police have conducted inspections at an astounding 1,08,292 temples and other key public locations. They meticulously checked 9.77 lakh individuals, resulting in 2,542 FIRs being filed. A total of 3,972 people faced arrest for various anti-social activities, while another 3.13 lakh individuals received warnings and counseling on appropriate public behavior, emphasizing a dual approach of enforcement and education.
Beyond direct arrests, proactive preventive measures were implemented against 53,237 individuals statewide. Furthermore, police meticulously inspected 55,377 Navratra pandals and 4,947 venues hosting Ramleela events and fairs, prioritizing public safety and maintaining order during these large gatherings.
The government statement detailed a substantial deployment of 37,337 police personnel to temples, religious sites, and other public spaces. This force included 411 gazetted officers, 7,999 inspectors and sub-inspectors, and 22,547 head constables and constables, showcasing a comprehensive security presence.
Crucially, the government also organized women’s ‘chaupals’ (community gatherings) at 39,911 temples, fairs, and public locations, which attracted an impressive turnout of over 20.5 lakh participants. These gatherings served as vital platforms for distributing informational materials, significantly boosting public awareness regarding women’s safety and broader empowerment initiatives.
