Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, that the state’s traders and consumers would be the biggest beneficiaries of the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms.
Addressing traders and customers directly at Hazratganj Market, CM Adityanath praised the ‘Next Gen GST Reform,’ which was implemented on the first day of Sharadiya Navratri.
“The reduction in GST rates is bringing considerable advantages to consumers, traders, and entrepreneurs alike. While providing immediate relief to the public, these reforms are also poised to bolster the market and create new employment opportunities. As India’s largest consumer state, Uttar Pradesh’s business community and shoppers stand to gain the most from these changes. These reforms were vital for the Indian economy and mark a decisive step toward alleviating inflation,” stated Mr. Adityanath in Lucknow.
He also highlighted the significant relief for consumers due to the reduction of GST on educational materials to zero.
“GST has been completely removed for notebooks, pencils, and various other educational supplies, while most essential household items now fall under the 0% or 5% tax bracket. Furthermore, 33 life-saving medicines have been entirely exempted from GST. The increased market consumption, he observed, is spurring higher production, which benefits both traders and entrepreneurs and generates fresh job prospects for the youth. These measures have provided substantial relief to consumers, particularly during the festive season,” Adityanath added.
During his visit to Hazratganj market, Mr. Adityanath personally engaged with traders and consumers, distributing pamphlets and banners detailing the GST reforms. Shopkeepers and customers were seen expressing their appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Finance Minister for introducing such impactful measures.
