Kerala is bracing for significant rainfall over the next two days, with forecasts predicting heavy to very heavy downpours across most parts of the state. This intense weather activity is attributed to active cyclonic circulations in both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has identified an upper air cyclonic circulation situated over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and its vicinity, alongside another over the southeast Arabian Sea and the adjacent north Kerala coast, both at lower tropospheric levels. These atmospheric conditions are expected to bring widespread, intense rain spells to various regions of Kerala.
An orange alert, signaling very heavy rain, was previously issued for Idukki, Kannur, and Kasaragod on Saturday. Now, a yellow alert, indicating heavy rainfall, is in effect for Sunday, October 12, 2025, for five specific districts: Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad. Residents in these areas should prepare for substantial rainfall over the next 24 hours.
In the preceding 24 hours, ending Saturday at 8:30 a.m., several areas experienced considerable rainfall. Venkurinji in Pathanamthitta district recorded the highest with 9 cm, followed by Peechi in Thrissur with 8 cm. Karipur in Malappuram, Enamakkal in Thrissur, and Peringome in Kannur all reported 7 cm of rainfall.
