Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given the green light for an advance release of ₹1,950.80 crore as the second installment of the central government’s contribution to the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for Karnataka and Maharashtra for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Of this significant allocation, Karnataka will receive ₹384.40 crore, while Maharashtra is set to benefit from ₹1,566.40 crore. These funds are intended to provide swift and crucial relief to residents in both states who have been severely impacted by the exceptionally heavy rainfall and widespread flooding experienced during this year’s southwest monsoon, according to an official announcement.
The central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the direct oversight of the Home Minister, reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to offering every possible form of assistance to states grappling with the aftermath of floods, landslides, and cloudburst incidents.
Earlier this year, the Centre had already disbursed a substantial ₹13,603.20 crore to 27 states through the SDRF. Additionally, ₹2,189.28 crore was released to 15 states via the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), underscoring the scale of nationwide disaster mitigation efforts.
Further support includes the release of ₹4,571.30 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 21 states and ₹372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine states.
Beyond financial aid, the central government has also extended comprehensive logistical assistance. This includes the deployment of essential teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as well as personnel from the Army and Air Force, to support all states affected by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.
During the recent monsoon season, a record 199 NDRF teams were actively deployed across 30 states and Union Territories, carrying out vital rescue and relief operations to safeguard lives and alleviate suffering.
