The process to update the voter list for the North-East Teachers’ Constituency in the Karnataka Legislative Council has officially begun! If you’re an eligible teacher, mark your calendars: November 1, 2025, is the qualifying date, and applications for inclusion in the electoral rolls must be submitted by November 6. Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum, who also serves as the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and Assistant Returning Officer for the constituency, shared these important details.
Following the application period, the draft electoral roll will be published on November 25. This will be your chance to review it carefully. Any objections regarding the draft list can be filed until December 10. Finally, the complete and final electoral roll will be officially published on December 30, 2025, according to Ms. Taranum’s announcement.
Various key officials are involved in this revision process. The Regional Commissioner of Kalaburagi division acts as the main Electoral Registration Officer. Supporting this effort are the Deputy Commissioners of Kalaburagi district, the Commissioner of Kalaburagi City Corporation, the Assistant Commissioners of Kalaburagi and Sedam, and the Tahsildars from all taluks within the constituency. All applications and objections should be directed to these designated offices within the specified timeframe.
While postal applications are accepted, applicants sending their forms by mail are required to appear before a notified officer for a verification process. It’s crucial to attend this hearing and provide any necessary documents; failure to do so may result in the rejection of your application. Even if your name was on the previous electoral roll, you must reapply using Form 19 to ensure your continued eligibility.
Who is Eligible to Vote?
To be considered an eligible voter, you must meet specific criteria:
- Be an Indian citizen.
- Reside ordinarily within the North-East Teachers’ Constituency.
- Have been teaching at least at the secondary level in a recognized educational institution within Karnataka for a minimum of three years during the last six years, as of September 1, 2025.
It is mandatory for applicants to attach a certificate, as outlined in Annexure-2, issued by the head of their respective educational institution.
Please note that bulk applications are not permitted. However, heads of institutions are welcome to submit applications on behalf of their staff to the Electoral Registration Officer. While family members can submit applications for one another, Ms. Taranum issued a strong warning: providing incorrect information will lead to legal consequences under Section 31 of the Representation of People Act, 1950.
Ms. Taranum strongly encourages all eligible teachers to actively participate and register themselves. By doing so, they can strengthen the democratic process and ensure their vital participation in the electoral rolls of the Teachers’ Constituency.
