Former MLA Narasimha Naik, also known as Rajugouda, has made a fervent appeal to the State government to promptly release compensation for farmers in Yadgir district who have endured significant crop losses due to the recent spell of heavy rains and subsequent flooding.
During a press conference held in Yadgir on Monday, Mr. Naik emphasized the extensive damage caused by the incessant rainfall and floods across the district. He stated, “Approximately 1.18 lakh hectares of standing crops, including vital produce like cotton, red gram, and paddy, have been completely destroyed. Additionally, hundreds of homes have sustained considerable damage.”
Criticizing the perceived inaction from authorities, Mr. Naik highlighted that beyond a preliminary aerial survey, no concrete steps have been taken to provide financial relief. He urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to intervene directly and ensure immediate compensation is provided to alleviate the severe distress faced by these affected agricultural communities.
Furthermore, the former MLA raised serious concerns about the escalating issue of illegal sand extraction within the district. He alleged that unlawful sand transportation is rampant and continues unchecked, suggesting a worrying nexus between some officials and those engaged in sand extraction, who he claims are operating with impunity.
In a specific instance, Mr. Naik called upon Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar to take strict action against Narayanpur Sub Inspector of Police Rajshekhar, who was reportedly seen celebrating his birthday at the police station in the company of a known history-sheeter.
Also present at the press conference were BJP district unit president Basavaraj Vibhutihalli, CMC Chairperson Lalita Anpur, along with Devendra Nath Nad, Ameen Reddy Patil, and other prominent figures.
