Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan announced on Friday that a vital temporary rock barrier would be constructed along the Uppada coast in Kakinada district. This measure aims to effectively combat ongoing coastal erosion, safeguarding the region.
Highlighting the success of similar initiatives, Mr. Kalyan noted that recently installed rock lanes had already proven effective in protecting vulnerable areas such as Subbampeta, Ameenabad, Konapapapeta, and Moolapeta. He affirmed that Uppada would receive the same level of protection.
During a crucial video conference with Kakinada District Collector S. Shan Mohan, Mr. Pawan Kalyan meticulously reviewed the widespread damage inflicted by the recent Cyclone Montha.
Collector Shan Mohan presented a sobering assessment, detailing that over 48,000 residents were impacted, and 61 homes along the Kakinada coast sustained damage. Agricultural devastation was significant, with paddy crops affected across 21,000 hectares and horticulture crops over 668 hectares. Furthermore, 13 kilometers of essential roadways were also damaged. In response, Mr. Kalyan instructed the Collector to finalize the comprehensive damage assessment report by Monday.
