T. Seetha Rama Rao, General Manager at ACT Fibernet, Bengaluru, highlighted the transformative power of Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology. He explained that GPON, a cutting-edge fiber-optic solution, seamlessly delivers internet, voice, and video services all through a single, efficient line.
During a technical seminar titled “Recent Innovations in Computer Networks,” hosted by the Department of Computer Science at P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Science, Rama Rao delved into how both Metro Ethernet Networks and GPON are instrumental in significantly boosting internet speeds for users and businesses alike. The seminar provided valuable insights for Computer Science and MCA students.
He elaborated on the Metro Ethernet Network’s crucial role in simplifying the expansion of urban data transmission networks and providing robust, high-speed connections for corporate clients and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). This technology boasts impressive capabilities, offering downstream speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps, upstream speeds of 1.25 Gbps, and reliable long-distance data transmission over 20 kilometers, all while keeping costs manageable.
Rama Rao also touched upon the latest Wi-Fi standards, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7, emphasizing their ability to deliver faster connections and support a greater number of simultaneous device connections. Furthermore, he outlined the functionalities of cloud-based routing, firewalls, and VPN services, and discussed cutting-edge security technologies designed to proactively defend against evolving network threats.
Looking ahead, he noted that AI-powered monitoring systems are proving effective in detecting potential network issues before they escalate. He further revealed that groundbreaking advancements in quantum computing for data transmission, quantum encryption, and ultra-high-speed data transfer are actively being researched, promising revolutionary shifts in future connectivity.
The insightful seminar saw participation from key academic figures, including Chief Faculty Member Meka Ramesh, Director Vemuri Baburao, Dean Rajesh C. Jampala, and Head of the Department T.S. Ravi Kiran, alongside enthusiastic students and faculty from the M.Sc. (Computer Science) and MCA programs.
