In a crucial operation aimed at curbing illegal drug activities, the Paradarami police successfully apprehended a 30-year-old lorry driver and his associate. The arrests took place at a strategic police checkpost situated along the Tamil Nadu – Andhra Pradesh border, specifically near Gudiyatham town in Vellore, on Sunday.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as B. Muthukalai, the 30-year-old lorry driver, and his 47-year-old accomplice, R. Senthuran, both residents of Paramakudi. The arrests are a direct result of specialized teams constituted by Superintendent of Police, A. Mayilvaganan, specifically tasked with combating the smuggling and distribution of ganja within the district. During a routine yet thorough vehicle inspection at the border village checkpost, the vigilant police team intercepted a lorry. Upon closer examination, they discovered several bundles of ganja, meticulously wrapped in plastic sheets and cunningly hidden amidst a consignment of leather and raw hides destined for a private tannery in Erode district.
Further interrogation of Muthukalai revealed their illicit plans: the ganja was intended for distribution in various Tier-II cities across the region, including Coimbatore, Tiruchi, and Madurai. Following their confessions, both individuals were officially arrested, and the substantial quantity of ganja, along with the lorry used for its transportation, was promptly impounded. Authorities have registered a case, and a comprehensive investigation into the smuggling network is actively progressing.
