A distressing incident unfolded on Wednesday morning in Venganoor, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, when a school bus belonging to VPS Malankara Higher Secondary School was involved in an accident. The bus, which was transporting students to school, veered off the road and collided with a compound wall, leaving twenty students with minor injuries.
Emergency services swiftly responded, with some students being rushed to the hospital via ambulance, while others were transported in the school bus itself for immediate medical attention.
Thankfully, the majority of the injured—sixteen students—were able to be discharged after receiving necessary care for their minor injuries. Of the four students initially admitted to the General Hospital, one required further transfer to the Government Medical College Hospital for more specialized treatment.
According to the bus driver’s statement to the police, the accident occurred as the vehicle was descending an incline. He reported that the bus experienced a sudden mechanical failure, rendering him unable to control it before it crashed into the house’s compound wall.
Police officials have confirmed that all the bus’s documentation appeared to be in order. Despite this, a formal case has been registered, and a thorough investigation is now underway to ascertain the exact cause of the mechanical failure and other contributing factors to the mishap.
