A serene Sunday afternoon outing took a devastating turn at Kismatpur in Rajendranagar when two teenagers tragically drowned in the Esa river. The incident, reported around 4:30 p.m., unfolded as a group of six friends from Hyderabad sought leisure by the waters of Himayatsagar.
Police identified the victims as 15-year-old Sohail and 16-year-old Rehan, both residents of Chintalmet in Rajendranagar. The pair had ventured into the river for a swim when they reportedly lost their footing and were quickly swept away by the current.
Their horrified friends immediately raised an alarm, rushing to the roadside to alert passers-by who then promptly informed law enforcement.
Emergency teams, including personnel from the Rajendranagar police, Disaster Response Force (DRF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), were swiftly mobilized. They launched an intensive search operation, which tragically concluded a short while later with the recovery of both boys’ bodies.
The bodies have since been transported to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem examination. Rajendranagar police have registered a case and are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the heartbreaking incident.
