A somber update has emerged regarding the recent boat tragedy off the coast of Mozambique: a native of Kollam, Kerala, who had been missing, is now confirmed dead. This heartbreaking news was announced by MP N.K. Premachandran in Kollam on Monday, October 20, 2025.
The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Sreerag Radhakrishnan, hailing from Naduvilakara, Thevalakkara. Sreerag, along with 22-year-old Indrajith from Piravom in Ernakulam district, went missing after their boat overturned on October 16. The vessel was transporting them, along with 19 other individuals (including 13 more Indians), to the tanker MT Sea Quest for maintenance work near Beira port.
MP Premachandran stated that Mozambican authorities confirmed Sreerag’s death after his body was recovered during an extensive search operation. He also noted with regret that the body was found in a badly decomposed state. “The authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to send the body back to India,” Mr. Premachandran conveyed to PTI.
Meanwhile, the families of Indrajith are still clinging to hope, as the search for him remains active. Sreerag’s family shared that he had only departed for Mozambique on October 13. He had dedicated seven years to working for a shipping company, having returned home six months prior to welcome the birth of his son. The family is now awaiting further communication from the Indian High Commission regarding the repatriation of Sreerag’s remains.
