A somber report from Jharkhand confirms the death of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Head Constable, who succumbed to injuries received during two improvised explosive device (IED) explosions in the dense Saranda forest of West Singhbhum district. The incident, which occurred on Friday evening, also left an Inspector and an Assistant Sub-Inspector injured, both of whom are currently undergoing medical treatment.
Police officials suspect that the IEDs were strategically planted by the proscribed CPI (Maoist) group. This militant organization is reportedly observing a ‘resistance week’ in Jharkhand, explicitly targeting security forces in the region.
The deceased head constable has been identified as Mahendra Laskar, a resident of Assam. He passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in Rourkela, Odisha, as stated by the Jharkhand Police Headquarters on Saturday.
In response to the escalating threats and the ongoing ‘resistance week’ declared by the banned CPI (Maoist) – which commenced on October 8 and includes a call for a statewide shutdown on October 15 – the Jharkhand Police have significantly ramped up security across the state.
Inspector General (Operations) Michael Raj previously confirmed that a robust deployment of 12 battalions of the CRPF and 20 groups from the Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) and India Reserve Battalion (IRB) has been put in place to enhance security and counter insurgency efforts throughout Jharkhand.
