Dehradun: In a heart-wrenching event, a 30-year-old labourer allegedly hurled his three-month-old son into a 300-meter gorge during a domestic dispute in Daboli village, Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand. The man then jumped into the gorge himself, according to police reports on Tuesday.
Authorities from the Lansdowne police station responded to the scene after receiving a call from the 112 Control Room around 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
The wife of the deceased recounted that her husband, originally from Nepal’s Dailekh district, had been drinking and became involved in an argument with her around 1:30 pm. She stated, “He worked as a daily-wage labourer. On the festival day, he came home intoxicated, and during an argument, he snatched the child from his wife and threw him into the gorge before jumping himself,” confirmed Sub-Inspector Pravesh Sharma of the Lansdowne police station.
The family had previously resided in Satpuli before relocating to a rented accommodation in Daboli village, Sharma added.
“Local villagers later managed to recover both the man and the child. The infant was found deceased, while the man was still alive. He was transported to Chailusain hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him dead upon arrival,” the officer stated.
Police have confirmed that both bodies were taken to the mortuary in Kotdwar for post-mortem examinations, which were completed on Tuesday.
“We have not yet received any formal complaint. The post-mortem procedures were concluded today. Further actions will be taken in accordance with established procedures,” the officer concluded.
