New Delhi: What began as a joyous family reunion turned into an unimaginable tragedy overnight. A father, his son, and grandson were killed in a horrific hit-and-run incident in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area. The family had gathered for a reunion dinner at their daughter’s residence in Uttam Nagar, with the youngest victim, 12-year-old Hamza, visiting from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Tragically, the fateful journey home began after the dinner. Mohammad Shahid, 60, was riding his motorcycle with his 28-year-old son, Faiz, and grandson, Hamza. They never reached their destination in Yamuna Vihar. Eyewitnesses reported that an unidentified vehicle struck their motorcycle near the Mukundpur flyover, throwing the three onto the road. In a further cruel twist of fate, a second vehicle then ran them over, resulting in the instantaneous death of all three.
According to relatives who rushed to the scene, an auto-driver who witnessed the crash stated that the child, Hamza, was still alive immediately after the initial collision but tragically passed away moments later. The impact was so severe that the victims’ bodies were beyond recognition.
Rehan Ahmed, a nephew of the deceased, tearfully recounted the devastating scene, mentioning that the eyewitnesses believed the two vehicles were racing at the time of the incident. “In one instant, we lost them all. The father and the son were inseparable, always together, and now they are gone,” he said, his voice filled with grief.
The family’s loss is compounded by the financial strain it will cause. Mohammad Shahid’s brother shared that the family has lost its primary breadwinners, leaving them orphaned not only emotionally but also financially. The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicles and apprehend the culprits, who fled the scene immediately after the crash. A case has been registered, and authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
