A heartbreaking discovery was made on Monday in Panoor, Kannur, Kerala, where a 43-year-old Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker was found deceased in a well at his home. He had been suffering for years, bedridden due to severe injuries sustained during an act of political violence.
Authorities have indicated that the death appears to be a case of suspected suicide, likely stemming from the profound mental and emotional toll of his prolonged illness and disability.
The victim, identified as Jyothiraj from Vilankkotur, had been receiving ongoing medical care since 2009. That year, he endured a brutal assault inside his own home during a political clash, allegedly at the hands of Bharatiya Janata Party workers. The attack left both of his legs severely slashed.
In the years that followed, Jyothiraj battled a persistent and unhealing ulcer on one of his legs, a direct consequence of the attack. Relatives confirm that these debilitating injuries confined him to his home for an extended period, profoundly impacting his life.
His family tragically found his body in the well adjacent to their house on Monday morning. The Panoor police immediately launched an investigation, conducting an inquest before transferring the body for a post-mortem examination.
As per the preliminary findings, the police have stated that there is no indication of foul play in this tragic incident.
