In a significant development, Sheikh Riyaz, the man accused of murdering Constable Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, was fatally shot by police at Nizamabad Government Hospital on Monday, October 20, 2025. This occurred after Riyaz reportedly attempted to seize a weapon and open fire on the officers present.
Riyaz had been in police custody since Sunday, October 19, 2025, in connection with the brutal murder of 42-year-old Constable Pramod. Pramod was tragically stabbed to death on Saturday, October 18, 2025, while he was escorting Riyaz to a police station in Nizamabad. Following this horrific incident, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy immediately launched a massive manhunt, deploying special teams to apprehend Riyaz.
Earlier, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Riyaz had assaulted a man identified as Asif near Sarangapur within the Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station jurisdiction. Asif, who was assisting the police in their efforts to capture Riyaz, sustained severe injuries during the violent altercation. Both individuals were hospitalized for their injuries, and Riyaz was subsequently taken into custody.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday, October 20, 2025, as Riyaz was receiving medical treatment at the Nizamabad Government Hospital. It is reported that he once again attempted to attack police personnel. In the ensuing struggle, he allegedly seized a weapon from an officer and tried to discharge it. Police responded immediately, resulting in Riyaz’s death during the confrontation.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy confirmed Riyaz’s death in the police action, reaffirming the Telangana Police’s unwavering commitment to upholding law and order and taking decisive action against dangerous criminals.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy conveyed the department’s deep condolences, stating, “The Telangana Police Department pays tribute to the martyred constable, Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, who was brutally murdered by the criminal Sheikh Riyaz. On behalf of the department, I extend my heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.”
In recognition of Constable Pramod’s sacrifice, the DGP announced a substantial ex gratia payment of ₹1 crore to his family. This includes his last paid salary until retirement, a government job for one family member, and a 300-yard housing plot, provided under Government Order (GO) 155. Furthermore, the family will receive an additional ₹16 lakh from the Police Security Welfare Fund and ₹8 lakh from the Police Welfare Fund.
The DGP assured comprehensive support from both the government and the police department to Pramod’s wife, Pranitha, and their three young sons during this difficult time.
