A tragic incident during an idol immersion ceremony in Agra district on Friday, October 3, 2025, resulted in the drowning of two individuals, with six others still reported missing. The unfortunate event occurred in the Utangan river, specifically in the Khairagarh area.
The mishap took place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, when a group of nine people participating in the immersion ceremony accidentally slipped into a deep section of the river. Local residents heroically managed to rescue one person, but tragically, the bodies of Gagan (26) and Ompal (32) were later recovered.
District Magistrate Arvind Mallappa Bangari confirmed that intensive search and rescue operations are ongoing for the six missing individuals. Teams comprising local divers, police personnel, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to assist in the efforts.
Mr. Bangari noted that authorities had designated a specific, safer location for the immersion rituals. However, the group involved in this incident chose an alternative, unauthorized spot in the river.
