The body of Venugopal Reddy, a moneylender from Proddatur who had been reported missing, was tragically discovered in the Kundu river near the town on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Reddy, a resident of the Bollavaram area, was reportedly abducted on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Investigations suggest that he frequently encountered verbal disputes with his clients over the repayment of money. According to early reports, unidentified individuals sprayed chili powder into his eyes before abducting him while he was on his two-wheeler, en route to his home.
Local residents located the body and promptly alerted the authorities. Police, accompanied by fire service personnel, quickly arrived at the scene. Initially, a missing person case was registered. However, as the investigation progressed and new details emerged, the case was reclassified as an abduction, and following a post-mortem examination, it was officially converted into a murder investigation.
