A somber atmosphere enveloped Mathigod village near Ramanathapura in Hassan district early Friday morning as a devastating incident claimed the life of a local woman. Heavy rainfall caused a wall of her home to collapse, leading to this profound tragedy.
The victim, 62-year-old Javaramma, sustained critical injuries when the wall unexpectedly caved in. Despite immediate efforts to rush her to a hospital, she tragically passed away en route. Javaramma leaves behind five children, having also lost her husband several years prior.
Heartbreakingly, the wall collapse occurred while Javaramma and other family members were sound asleep. Fortunately, her son and daughter-in-law, who were also present in the house, escaped unharmed. Javaramma’s body has since been transported to Arakalgud for a post-mortem examination.
K.C. Sowmya, the Tahsildar of Arakalgud taluk, confirmed that Javaramma resided in a mud house. Speaking to local reporters, Sowmya stated, “The police have promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the incident, and the post-mortem has been completed. We will be submitting a detailed report on this rain-related fatality to the State Government. We assure the grieving family that they will receive a compensation of ₹5 lakh to help them through this difficult time.”
