A tragic stampede at the Venkateswara Swamy temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday has claimed the lives of at least ten devotees. The incident unfolded as a large number of worshippers gathered at the temple in Kasibugga to observe Ekadashi.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock and sorrow over the incident, extending his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. He stated, “The stampede incident at the Venkateswara Temple in Kashibugga in Srikakulam district has caused a shock. The death of devotees in this tragic incident is extremely heartbreaking.” CM Naidu has also directed officials to ensure speedy and proper medical treatment for all those who were injured and has urged local authorities and public representatives to be present at the site to manage relief operations.
What Led to the Tragedy?
The unfortunate event occurred due to an overwhelming rush of devotees who had congregated at the temple for Ekadashi prayers. The sheer volume of people led to severe overcrowding, which tragically resulted in a stampede.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched, with the injured being rushed to nearby hospitals. Police and other authorities arrived at the scene to manage the situation and restore order.
