The bodies of two 13-year-old girls, who had been missing since Thursday from Mulbagal town, were tragically discovered in a well approximately 2 kilometers away on Saturday.
While the parents of the two children are heartbroken and have vehemently alleged sexual assault and murder, the Mulbagal Rural police have registered a case of unnatural death and are now awaiting the crucial autopsy report to determine the precise cause of their demise.
The victims have been identified as Dhanya Bai and Chaitra Bai, both seventh-grade students at the Government Higher Primary School in Yalachepalli village.
The events leading up to their disappearance began on Thursday morning. The two friends were playing outside Dhanya Bai’s home when Chaitra needed to use the restroom. Despite Dhanya’s mother, Gayathri Bai, suggesting she use the indoor toilet, Chaitra ventured outside, accompanied by Dhanya Bai, around 10 a.m. This was the last time they were seen.
When Gayathri Bai noticed their prolonged absence, she immediately informed other family members. A frantic search ensued, culminating in a missing persons complaint being filed with the Mulbagal Rural police.
The grim discovery was made on Saturday morning by local villagers who spotted two bodies floating in a nearby well. Police were promptly alerted, and upon recognizing the description, contacted the families of the missing girls. Relatives rushed to the site, confirming with profound grief that the bodies were indeed their children. The police have since recovered the bodies and sent them for a thorough post-mortem examination.
Ishwar Rao, Dhanya Bai’s father and a teacher, expressed his deep sorrow and firm conviction that the girls were sexually assaulted and murdered. “They were probably strangled to death,” he stated, pleading for justice for his daughter and her friend.
Senior police officials, while acknowledging the family’s anguish, emphasized that the exact cause of death can only be confirmed by the autopsy results. They have initiated a comprehensive investigation, meticulously working to piece together the girls’ final moments and interviewing anyone who last saw them alive.
