In a somber turn of events, a Class 9 student from a private international school in South Kolkata has died after collapsing during a sports event held on the school premises. The incident, which took place on Friday, has sent waves of grief through the school community.
Arkadeep Bag, a student at B D M International School, was participating in a 33-meter track race as part of the selection process for the school’s upcoming annual sports meet. According to reports, after successfully completing the race, Arkadeep suddenly collapsed. He was promptly attended to by the on-duty Physical Education teacher, who is trained in CPR, and the school nurse. Despite immediate first aid and swift transport to a nearby private hospital, medical efforts were tragically unsuccessful, and the young student could not be saved.
An initial assessment, supported by the post-mortem report and medical professionals, indicates that Arkadeep’s death was due to health-related issues. Police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with teachers, friends, and school staff being questioned to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The school principal expressed profound grief, stating, “It is with profound grief and sorrow that we inform the passing of our beloved student Arkadeep Bag of class nine, section 14, on October 10.” The school administration has emphasized that they acted swiftly to inform the parents and provide necessary support.
