A harrowing incident has shocked the community of Medipally, where a 19-year-old engineering student tragically died by suicide inside his hostel room on Sunday night. The young man, identified as Jadhav Sai Teja, a second-year B. Tech student at Siddhartha Institute of Technology in Narapally, and originally from Utnoor in Adilabad district, was found hanging. Authorities suspect his death followed a deeply distressing experience of alleged humiliation and forced payment for his seniors’ drinking expenses, imposed as a cruel form of ‘punishment’.
Initial police investigations reveal that the events leading to Sai Teja’s death began on Saturday night. He had attended a birthday party in his hostel room alongside a fellow student, David, and a junior, Murali. During the gathering, where alcohol was consumed, Murali, who had also brought other friends, reportedly initiated a confrontation with both Teja and David.
According to Sub Inspector K. Shiva Kumar of Medipally police, the situation escalated dramatically the following day. “On Sunday, Murali recounted the previous night’s fracas to Chinni Babu and others. Subsequently, this group summoned Teja and David, subjecting them to a physical assault. They then coerced both students into a bar in Narapally, where a bill of ₹10,000 was allegedly run up, with Teja being forced to cover the cost,” the officer stated.
The torment continued. “When another individual, Prashanth, demanded that Teja buy him cigarettes, Teja retreated to his room and tragically took his own life,” the officer added, painting a grim picture of the relentless pressure the student faced.
Before his death, Sai Teja managed to record a poignant video message addressed to his father. In this message, he explicitly named Chinni Babu and others, accusing them of the humiliation and physical assault that pushed him to such a desperate act. Sai Teja’s father, overwhelmed by grief, recounted receiving a call from his son asking for money, followed by another call detailing the thrashing and his desperate intention to end his life before the line went dead.
The Medipally police have since registered cases of abetment to suicide against Chinni Babu, Murali, Shiva, Fayaz, Ismail, Prashant, Mani Yadav, Sai, and other unidentified individuals involved. Law enforcement is actively working to identify and apprehend all those responsible for this tragic case of harassment.
