A devastating accident unfolded on Saturday morning, November 1, 2025, near Double Road in Bengaluru’s Wilson Garden area. A speeding ambulance collided with a couple’s two-wheeler, resulting in their immediate deaths. The impact also caused significant damage to multiple other vehicles and even a local police outpost.
Police identified the victims as 40-year-old Ismail and 33-year-old Sameena Banu. The couple was riding their scooter when the ambulance, approaching at a dangerously high speed from the Richmond Circle direction, struck them from behind.
Eyewitnesses and police reports indicate that the couple had stopped their vehicle at a red light. The ambulance, reportedly being driven with extreme recklessness, failed to stop, crashing into them. The force of the collision was immense, leaving both individuals crushed beneath the vehicle, dying instantly at the scene.
Adding to the public’s shock and anger, the ambulance involved in this horrific incident was later confirmed to belong to a private hospital and was empty, carrying no patients. Despite this, the driver was allegedly speeding with the emergency siren activated, a clear misuse of emergency privileges.
The catastrophic chain of events continued as the out-of-control ambulance then struck three more motorcycles, dragging one for approximately 50 meters. Its destructive path only ended when it finally crashed into a police outpost. Two other individuals, Riyan and Siddiq, sustained injuries in the multi-vehicle pile-up.
The sheer brutality of the accident immediately ignited widespread public outrage. Angry locals at the scene resorted to overturning the ambulance to extricate the trapped victims and vehicles. Many voiced serious concerns, alleging this was not the first time such an incident involving an ambulance had occurred in the area. They accused ambulance drivers of habitually misusing sirens and engaging in dangerous, reckless driving even when no emergency calls necessitate it.
Authorities at the Ashoknagar police station have registered a case of death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving against the apprehended driver. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the ambulance driver’s culpability and to examine the accountability of the hospital management in this tragic affair.
