A somber discovery was made in Maharashtra’s Satara district when a woman doctor, employed at a local government hospital, was found deceased in a hotel room. Authorities reported on Friday (October 24, 2025) that she had left a heart-wrenching note, detailing severe allegations of rape and persistent mental harassment against two police officers.
The tragic incident came to light late Thursday night (October 23, 2025) in Phaltan, where her body was discovered. Hailing from Beed district, the doctor had been serving at a government hospital within the Phaltan tehsil.
In response to the gravity of the situation, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also oversees the Home Department, promptly contacted the Satara Superintendent of Police. He issued directives for the immediate suspension of the police officers implicated in the doctor’s suicide note and mandated strict legal action against all individuals found responsible in the case, according to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office.
In a poignant and damning message inscribed on her palm, the doctor bravely accused Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane of repeatedly raping and sexually harassing her over the past five months. Furthermore, she alleged that another officer, Prashant Bankar, subjected her to ongoing mental harassment.
Confirming the initiation of legal proceedings, a Satara police official stated, “We have registered a case, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. We are rigorously investigating the serious allegations detailed in the victim’s suicide note.”
Meanwhile, Rupali Chakankar, head of the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, addressed the public, affirming, “We have officially recognized the gravity of this case and instructed the Satara Police to pursue stringent action against the accused. Dedicated teams are actively searching for those involved, and we assure the public that no one responsible for this unfortunate incident will escape justice.”
