Authorities in Bengaluru have apprehended a 33-year-old truck driver following a tragic incident near Budigere Cross on Monday, where a college student lost her life after being run over by his vehicle.
The arrested driver has been identified as Jayaruddin Mandal, a resident of Mandur, originally from West Bengal.
Police reports indicate that the victim, 22-year-old Dhanushree from Hoskote, was on her way to college when her scooter reportedly skidded on a poorly maintained section of the road. Subsequently, the truck operated by Mandal allegedly struck her, resulting in her death.
Initially, the case was filed as a hit-and-run against an unknown individual due to the absence of immediate CCTV surveillance at the accident site, as confirmed by an investigating officer. However, a diligent probe led to the discovery of two CCTV cameras located some distance away.
Upon reviewing the footage, investigators conclusively determined that Mandal’s truck was the vehicle involved in the fatality, with no other vehicles observed in that specific stretch at the time of the accident.
In his statement to the police, Mandal asserted that he neither saw the young woman nor realized that his truck had run over her. These claims are currently being thoroughly investigated by the police.
The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together all aspects of this heartbreaking incident.
