Bangalore University buzzed with discontent as students and faculty members initiated an overnight protest beginning Thursday, October 9, 2025. Their unified demand: the immediate revocation of Syndicate Membership for Ramesh Babu P., whom they accuse of persistently meddling in the university’s administration and infringing upon faculty duties.
The demonstrators, who continued their fervent protest into Friday, October 10, 2025, claim that Mr. Babu frequently invokes the Deputy Chief Minister’s name to exert undue influence and has a pattern of using abusive language towards esteemed senior professors, leading to significant humiliation and embarrassment for the academic community.
Allegations of Abusive Conduct and Overreach
Beyond his mandated role of attending syndicate meetings, Mr. Babu is alleged to have overstepped his authority significantly. A notable incident includes his unauthorized intrusion into the selection process for guest faculty in the Physical Education Department, where he reportedly conducted interviews himself, posing as a Professor.
Further compounding the allegations, during the recent Valmiki Jayanti celebrations, Mr. Krishnamurthy, the Special Officer for Scheduled Castes/Tribes, was reportedly subjected to verbal abuse and insult by Mr. Babu. “Numerous complaints regarding his conduct and behavior have already been filed with the government,” a faculty member revealed.
“The government must act swiftly to withdraw Ramesh Babu’s syndicate membership. His actions far exceed his authority and are severely undermining the prestige and dignity of both the university and its professors. A formal petition detailing these concerns has been submitted to the Vice Chancellor and the government,” stated a faculty representative, warning that a failure to take decisive action would lead to a boycott of classes and an intensification of the protests.
Mr. Babu was unavailable for comment regarding these serious allegations.
