In an innovative and proactive approach to tackle the growing issue of drug abuse, the Tirupati police department has introduced advanced drone technology to patrol and monitor sensitive areas. This strategic deployment aims to identify and track the movements of individuals involved in illegal substance use and other anti-social activities.
A recent operation, spurred by a credible tip-off on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, saw the Tirupati West police successfully utilize drones along the railway track near Rayala Cheruvu Road. The aerial surveillance quickly pinpointed three individuals who were observed injecting drugs using syringes. These suspects were promptly apprehended by ground units and brought to the police station for immediate counseling and further legal proceedings.
Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu issued a strong warning, emphasizing the department’s unwavering commitment to combating drug-related crime. He stated unequivocally that anyone found in possession or consuming illegal substances would face severe consequences, including imprisonment. “Such addicts would be sent behind the bars,” he declared.
The Superintendent also appealed to the community to play an active role in this fight, urging citizens to dial ‘112’ immediately if they witness anyone consuming or selling prohibited drugs in any form. He assured the public that all identities would be kept strictly confidential, encouraging full cooperation to make Tirupati a safer, drug-free city.
