The Kerala government has taken a decisive step by forming a seven-member committee dedicated to addressing critical demands regarding salary revisions and staff patterns for the employees of the Thrissur Corporation Electricity department.
This significant decision emerged from a high-level meeting on Tuesday, led by Minister for Local Self-Governments, M.B. Rajesh. This move is particularly crucial given the context of a September 12, 2025 order from the Local Self-Governments department, which had controversially reduced the number of sanctioned positions in the Corporation’s electricity department from 229 to a mere 103.
The newly established committee will comprise representatives from both the employees and the government, ensuring a balanced approach to the discussions. Their primary mandate is to submit a comprehensive report to the State government by October 31, outlining viable solutions to these pressing matters.
Thrissur Mayor M.K. Varghese expressed optimism about this development, highlighting that it aims to bring closure to demands that have lingered since 2013. He reiterated the Left Democratic Front-led council’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the legitimate rights of the workers in the department.
