Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized the crucial need for political parties across the spectrum to set aside differences and unite for the state’s progress. He shared this message during the inauguration of the ‘Vikasana Sadassu’ (Development Conclave) initiative by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. This month-long campaign is designed to showcase the achievements of various local self-government bodies throughout Kerala, leading up to the upcoming local elections.
“Our political differences should never hinder Kerala’s journey towards development,” stated Mr. Vijayan. He urged opposition members in local bodies to actively support developmental projects, expressing regret that some in leadership roles occasionally fail to embrace this collaborative spirit. The Chief Minister highlighted that the State government has consistently provided impartial support to all local bodies, without any political bias, a fact confirmed by the absence of complaints from any local authority. He then drew a contrast, noting the “unfair treatment” of the State by the Union government, which he claimed has withheld crucial support and funds.
Mr. Vijayan clarified that the ‘Vikasana Sadassu’ isn’t merely a review of past projects; it’s a forward-looking effort to craft future development blueprints. The initiative is structured to actively gather public feedback, understand community needs, and integrate these insights into future planning.
He expressed disappointment that “some local bodies have chosen not to participate in this vital initiative.” He implored them to abandon such a “narrow mindset” and instead focus on contributing to the formulation of future projects for the collective good.
The event was presided over by M.B. Rajesh, the Minister for Local Self-Governments. Following the inaugural address, an open forum was held where Mayor Arya Rajendran engaged with the public, addressing a range of city-related concerns. Notably, in response to a participant’s suggestion about the scarcity of free venues for aspiring writers and artists to host book launches or art exhibitions, Mayor Rajendran announced that the Corporation’s EMS auditorium would now be made available for such purposes without charge.
