Jammu and Kashmir’s esteemed cricketer, Parvez Rasool, has announced his retirement from professional cricket. His decision, made on Monday, October 20, 2025, marks the end of a remarkable journey that saw him become the first player from the region to represent India on the international stage, over a decade ago.
During his international career, Rasool notably played one One Day International for India against Bangladesh in June 2014, followed by a Twenty20 International against England in January 2017.
In an emotional social media post, Rasool reflected on his career: “It’s been an incredible journey, filled with dreams, hard work, joy, and countless cherished memories. From the local grounds to proudly representing my team and my country, cricket has given me everything I ever wished for. I am profoundly thankful to my family, coaches, teammates, and fans for their unwavering love, trust, and constant support throughout this journey. Every moment I’ve spent on the field has truly been an honor and a blessing.”
He further stated his intention to continue engaging with the sport, not professionally, but driven by pure passion, and to dedicate his time to mentoring aspiring young cricketers. Rasool also extended his gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir government for their continuous support.
Rasool’s initial inclusion in the Indian squad for the Zimbabwe ODI series in 2013 sparked widespread excitement across Jammu and Kashmir. Despite a controversial omission from the playing XI then, he eventually earned his India cap the following year, fulfilling a long-held dream. His Indian Premier League journey began in 2013 with the now-defunct Pune Warriors, a day he fondly described as the ‘proudest of his life’. He later went on to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad for two seasons.
Adding another feather to his cap, on October 3, 2018, Parvez Rasool etched his name in history as the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to complete 100 List-A matches, a testament to his enduring dedication and skill.
