In a significant move for skill development and youth employability in the Industry 4.0 era, Telangana’s long-standing Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are being revolutionized into cutting-edge Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs). This transformation is a realization of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s visionary project, aimed at equipping the state’s workforce for future challenges.
These newly refurbished and modernized institutions, boasting world-class technology courses and facilities, are slated for a grand inauguration on September 27. Chief Minister Reddy himself will launch the ATC at the Mallepally Industrial Training Institute in Hyderabad, with his Cabinet colleagues, MLAs, and other public representatives simultaneously opening centers across various locations in Telangana.
This ambitious undertaking, a collaborative effort with Tata Technologies, involves upgrading 65 ITIs into ATCs, with a total investment of ₹2,379.63 crore. The State government has committed ₹363.38 crore to the project, while Tata Technologies is covering the substantial remaining costs.
Each Advanced Technology Centre features modern, spacious workshops, covering 13,500 sq. ft., and outfitted with cutting-edge machinery, tools, and comprehensive training resources. These centers will introduce a robust curriculum comprising six long-term and 23 short-term courses. These programs are meticulously designed to address current industry demands in critical areas like Robotics, Industrial Automation, Product Design, Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology, 3D Printing, Manufacturing Execution Systems, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Specifically, Tata Technologies has spearheaded the development of six advanced courses, including Advanced CNC Machining, Industrial Robotics and Digital Manufacturing, Mechanic Electric Vehicle, and Process Control Automation. These forward-thinking programs are poised to cultivate a new generation of highly skilled professionals, ready to make significant contributions to rapidly evolving industries.
Enrollment for this academic cycle has seen tremendous success, with 99% of the 11,008 available long-term course seats already filled. Looking ahead, the ATCs plan to open admissions for an impressive 1.25 lakh short-term courses starting next year, further broadening access to specialized training.
Under the agreement with the Telangana government, Tata Technologies will ensure high-quality instruction by deploying 130 Master Trainers (two per ATC) and 780 Trainers (12 per ATC). To prepare for this extensive rollout, three dedicated training centers located in Mallepally, Khammam, and Nizamabad are already actively working to upskill the existing ITI teaching staff.
Crucially, the 65 Advanced Technology Centres have received formal affiliation from both the Directorate General of Training (DGT) and the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET). This vital recognition guarantees that all new programs offered at these centers will hold national accreditation, enhancing the value and transferability of the skills acquired.
