Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unequivocally declared his government’s unwavering commitment to stamping out the drug menace in Telangana, identifying it as the single greatest threat to the state’s progress and well-being.
The Chief Minister emphasized his administration’s resolve to completely eliminate this scourge from the state, even proposing new, stricter legislation to achieve this goal. “No individual will be exempt from accountability in our mission to eradicate drugs,” he asserted, speaking at the Praja Palana Dinotsavam on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, an event commemorating Hyderabad State’s integration into the Indian Union.
Expressing deep concern, Reddy noted that Hyderabad had sadly transformed into a significant entry point for narcotics over the past decade. He attributed this regrettable development to the “apathy, negligence, and greed of the previous administrations.” In response, his government has launched the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) system, a dedicated initiative designed to aggressively combat drug trafficking and foster a healthier community. He highlighted that the problem extends beyond the city limits, now infiltrating smaller municipalities and rural areas, necessitating immediate and comprehensive countermeasures.
Reddy proudly mentioned that the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing recently earned top honors in the drug control category at the World Police Summit, which saw participation from 138 nations. He pledged to further bolster the capabilities and resources of the EAGLE force.
In a veiled criticism of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders, the Chief Minister acknowledged that some might disapprove of the government’s aggressive anti-drug efforts. However, he made it clear that political influence would offer no protection. “Individuals involved in these activities may have family ties to politics, or own lavish farmhouses. We will show no favoritism and will expose everyone connected to drug-related offenses,” he stated firmly.
He urged the public to reject and ostracize any vested interests attempting to undermine the government’s anti-drug campaign, calling for widespread cooperation in this crucial battle. “We are resolute in imposing stringent penalties on the Telangana drug network,” he declared.
Musi River Revitalization: A Vision for Urban Renewal
Chief Minister Reddy reaffirmed his government’s steadfast commitment to the Musi River rejuvenation project, envisioning it as a transformative initiative that will rival prestigious developments like Gujarat’s Sabarmati riverfront, Delhi’s Yamuna riverfront, and Uttar Pradesh’s Ganga project. This ambitious undertaking was sparked by the dire, unsanitary living conditions endured by residents along the Musi, who lacked viable alternatives. The government’s plan aims not only to thoroughly cleanse the river but also to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities. Part of this vision includes establishing vibrant night bazaars along the revitalized Musi, fostering new commercial activity and job creation.
Reddy proclaimed, “This project will ignite a fresh cycle of employment and entrepreneurial ventures. While the rest of the city rests, the Musi riverfront will come alive with vibrant activity.” Both the Musi rejuvenation and the planned Gandhi Sarovar projects are key components in elevating Hyderabad’s global image. Additionally, the proposed ‘Gateway of Hyderabad’ on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will serve as a magnificent welcome arch, complementing the ₹24,000 crore expansion of the Hyderabad Metro’s second phase, which will add a new 76.4 km network.
Telangana Rising 2047: A Vision for the Future
The Chief Minister highlighted the ‘Telangana Rising – 2047’ document, a comprehensive blueprint designed to position the state as a global leader. This visionary plan spans a wide array of initiatives, from the Musi River’s revival to the advancement of agriculture in rural Telangana. The document will detail the innovative strategies and implementation approaches for numerous critical projects aimed at significantly boosting Hyderabad’s brand image. Reddy announced, “This pivotal document is scheduled for its official unveiling on December 9th of this year.”
