Telangana’s Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, recently highlighted the immense potential of the state’s tourism sector, asserting that it could draw investments totaling a remarkable ₹50,000 crore. During the Telangana Tourism Conclave in Hyderabad on World Tourism Day, he emphasized that tourism deserves the same strategic focus currently given to technology and pharmaceuticals. The Chief Minister proudly announced that since the launch of the state’s new Tourism Policy this year, Telangana has already secured investment proposals worth ₹15,000 crore.
At the conclave, the government formally signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with prominent national and international investors, solidifying the ₹15,000 crore worth of initial investment proposals. According to Minister for Tourism, Jupally Krishna Rao, a total of 30 exciting projects are on the horizon, poised to create more than 50,000 new jobs. These projects are a mix of public-private partnerships (14 projects with an outlay of ₹7,081 crore) and purely private ventures (16 projects funded with ₹8,198 crore).
Jayesh Ranjan, the Tourism Secretary, introduced several key initiatives designed to boost the sector. These include ‘Film in Telangana,’ a program aimed at attracting film productions, the establishment of a dedicated medical tourism zone, and active promotion of picturesque locations like Anantagiri, Nagarjunasagar, and Somasila for destination weddings. To further enhance the visitor experience, a new Medical Value Tourism portal was launched to simplify the entire patient journey, from initial inquiry to comprehensive treatment. Additionally, the Telangana Culinary Accelerator was unveiled to celebrate and promote the state’s rich food culture. Ensuring visitor safety is also a top priority, with a specialized 90-member tourist police task force now deployed at major tourist spots.
