Telangana witnessed an impressive surge in liquor sales this festive season, with figures comfortably surpassing the ₹3,000 crore milestone. This remarkable achievement reflects a robust increase of over 7% compared to the previous year. According to data released by the Prohibition and Excise department, September 2025 alone saw liquor sales reach a staggering ₹3,046 crore, significantly up from ₹2,838 crore recorded in September 2024.
Delving into the specifics, the volume of Indian Made Liquor (IML) sold saw a healthy uptick, climbing from 28.81 lakh cases in September 2024 to 29.92 lakh cases this year. Curiously, while IML sales surged, beer consumption experienced a noticeable dip, falling from 39.71 lakh cases last year to 36.46 lakh cases in 2025.
Authorities highlighted that the three days immediately preceding the main festive celebrations experienced exceptionally high demand. Sales peaked at ₹278 crore on September 29, followed by an even higher ₹333 crore on September 30, before settling at ₹86.23 crore on October 1. This concentrated buying spree resulted in an astounding 60-80% jump in sales during these critical three days compared to the equivalent period last year.
This significant boost in sales offers a welcome relief to the Prohibition and Excise department, which diligently tracks these figures. The festive season traditionally serves as a crucial period for the state’s revenue generation, making this year’s impressive performance particularly impactful.
