In a significant development in Telangana’s political landscape, two Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from the BRS party, Gudem Mahipal Reddy and Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy, recently concluded their cross-examination regarding allegations of defection to the Congress party. The proceedings took place on Saturday, overseen by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad.
During the cross-examination, legal representatives for the BRS petitioners vigorously questioned the MLAs. The accused legislators maintained their stance, asserting that their meetings with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy were solely for discussing constituency development and did not signify an intent to defect, as alleged. However, the advocates countered this by presenting various pieces of evidence, including video footage and media reports, showing the MLAs alongside prominent Congress leaders on multiple occasions.
Of the ten MLAs currently facing defection allegations, eight have already submitted affidavits reaffirming their allegiance to the BRS party. Notably, Kadiyam Srihari and Danam Nagender are still due to submit their respective affidavits. Bharat Kumar, chairman of the BRS legal cell, confirmed that the recent proceedings involved both the submission of evidence and comprehensive cross-examination of the accused.
The case is set for its next hearing on October 24, following Speaker Gaddam Prasad’s scheduled visit to Barbados for a conference of Speakers. This upcoming date is critical, as the Supreme Court has mandated that the Speaker deliver a ruling on these defection accusations by October 30.
