In a significant political development, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud has indicated a strong likelihood of appointing current MLAs to the powerful positions of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents. This strategic move was a central topic of discussion during a recent high-level meeting in New Delhi.
Mr. Goud, alongside Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, held discussions with All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal. The primary agenda for their meeting was to finalize the roster of DCC presidents across the state.
During an informal media interaction on Sunday, Mr. Goud addressed the speculation surrounding Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy’s wife and Kodad MLA, N. Padmavathi Reddy, having applied for the Suryapet DCC president role. While admitting to not being fully aware of her application, he highlighted the Uttam Reddy family’s three decades of deep involvement in politics. “Given their extensive seniority, the party high command is certainly in a position to consider Ms. Padmavathi for the DCC chief post,” he stated, further suggesting that other highly capable and efficient MLAs would also be offered these significant positions. He emphasized that holding an MLA seat would not be an impediment to becoming a DCC president, though he clarified that newly joined members would not be able to seek posts for their family members.
Commenting on recent internal disagreements among several ministers, the TPCC chief assured that the issue has been resolved for now. He urged all party leaders, including ministers and MLAs, to be more circumspect and careful with their public remarks moving forward.
Furthermore, the Congress MLC expressed strong confidence in the party’s ability to secure a victory in the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election.
Mr. Goud also criticized BJP leaders, including Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, accusing them of failing to secure essential development funds from the Central government for Telangana. He specifically questioned Mr. Kishan Reddy on the absence of funding for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro project. Additionally, he challenged MLC K. Kavitha to reveal facts pertaining to her decade-long tenure in the previous BRS government.
