Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has expressed significant apprehension regarding the United States’ recent initiatives to increase tariffs on Indian goods and raise the H-1B visa fee.
He emphasized that the decision to raise H-1B visa fees could adversely affect both economies and potentially foster unrest and misunderstanding between the two nations. These concerns are further amplified by the potential for abrupt decisions, such as tariff hikes. Reddy highlighted the substantial contributions of the Telangana diaspora to the progress of the United States.
The Chief Minister shared these thoughts during a meeting in Hyderabad on Thursday, October 9, 2025, with an American delegation. The delegation included senior U.S. business leaders, representatives from prominent think tanks, and philanthropists actively involved in fostering bilateral relations, investments, and policy exchanges between India and the U.S.
Reddy assured the delegation that successive governments in Telangana have maintained continuity in developmental initiatives, which has propelled Hyderabad to its current status as a global city. He noted that despite political and ideological differences, administrations have consistently adopted past best practices and remained steadfast in their policies.
He then presented his ambitious “Telangana Rising 2047” vision, outlining the State Government’s goal to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. He proudly stated that Hyderabad is now actively competing with major global cities like New York, Tokyo, and Seoul in terms of infrastructure development and manufacturing capabilities.
The government has embarked on several transformative projects and plans to introduce more for Hyderabad, including a Regional Ring Road, new manufacturing zones, the “Bharat Future City” initiative, a dry port, and dedicated road and rail links to seaports.
Furthermore, the Musi river rejuvenation project is expected to unlock new economic opportunities for Telangana. Reddy underscored Hyderabad’s rich heritage and culture as ideal for developing a world-class riverfront.
The Chief Minister also expressed the government’s commitment to positioning Telangana as a prime choice for the “China+1” strategy, seeking the support of U.S. industry partners for the development of Bharat Future City. This ambitious project aims to attract all Fortune 500 companies to establish a presence within the future city.
Telangana’s Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu elaborated on the government’s plans to transform the state into a global skill capital, particularly in artificial intelligence, through the establishment of an AI university. Capitalizing on Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a hub for global capacity centers (GCCs), the government intends to encourage these centers to evolve into “value centers,” thereby boosting service exports and product development. He also reminded the delegation of the state capital’s significant role in supplying a large portion of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide, reaffirming ongoing efforts to further support indigenous companies.
