Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has issued clear directives to Irrigation department officials, tasking them with developing comprehensive plans to facilitate the transfer of 80 tmcft (thousand million cubic feet) of water from Tummidihatti to Sundilla. This initiative is a significant step towards bolstering the region’s water resources.
During a high-level meeting with senior officials convened to assess the status of ongoing water projects, the Chief Minister specifically called for immediate action to finalize cost estimates for the much-needed repairs of the Sundilla barrage. This barrage has sustained damage, and its restoration is critical for the effective supply of water to the Sripada Yellampalli project.
Mr. Reddy thoroughly reviewed the current condition of the Sundilla barrage and subsequently directed officials to formulate detailed strategies for ensuring both irrigation and potable water supply to the entire erstwhile Adilabad district. He underscored the importance of incorporating previously prepared estimates into the current planning for these project works.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister meticulously examined the recent correspondence from Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil. Following this review, he provided key suggestions, notably advocating for the preparation of in-depth, project-specific analysis reports.
In a broader assessment of the Medigadda, Sundilla, and Annaram barrages, Mr. Reddy instructed officials to develop robust and actionable plans for their repairs. He stressed the imperative of holding contract agencies fully accountable for these restoration efforts. Looking ahead, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced his intention to convene another meeting in the second week of November, dedicated to reviewing the progress on these crucial project-wise reports.
