The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is pushing for a thorough investigation into the alleged mismanagement of funds allocated under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0) scheme. TDP MLA Koona Ravi Kumar specifically called for the Legislative Assembly to establish a House Committee to scrutinize these alleged irregularities, not only in his Amadalavalasa constituency but across various urban local bodies where similar issues supposedly occurred during the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) administration.
Deputy Speaker K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju responded to the demand, stating that a decision on forming a House Committee would be made following careful deliberation and an official inquiry into the accusations. Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao and Palakonda MLA Nimmaka Jayakrishna also joined Mr. Ravi Kumar in raising concerns about these alleged financial discrepancies.
TDP legislators highlighted grave concerns, claiming that payments for projects were significantly inflated compared to contract amounts, or that in many instances, less than 50% of the physical work was completed despite substantial payments. They emphasized that this situation necessitates accountability for anyone involved in looting the public exchequer through nepotism or other fraudulent activities related to the execution of public works.
When Mr. Ravi Kumar repeatedly pressed for immediate approval of a House Committee, Deputy Speaker Raghu Ramakrishna Raju advised him to formally introduce a resolution. The Deputy Speaker then indicated that while the matter required discussion and proper investigation, a resolution to address the issue could indeed be passed within the ongoing Legislative Assembly session.
