N. Vijay Kumar, a spokesperson for the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), asserted that YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent displays of concern for government employees are politically motivated. According to Kumar, Reddy’s sympathies are aimed at gaining political advantage from what he described as the “plight of employees” under the current coalition government, which has allegedly failed to uphold its pre-election promises.
Mr. Vijay Kumar contended that the present government is actively working to improve the conditions for its employees. He highlighted that a 43% Pay Revision Commission (PRC) fitment was implemented, a significant increase compared to the 21% reportedly offered during the YSRCP’s tenure. He further noted that despite financial challenges, various other benefits have been extended to government staff.
Speaking to the media at the TDP central office on Wednesday, Mr. Vijay Kumar accused the previous YSRCP administration of reducing the PRC fitment to a level below the Interim Relief. He also pointed out that cases were filed against teachers and employees who dared to challenge these perceived injustices.
Even more critically, he alleged that the YSRCP government unlawfully diverted employees’ Provident Fund (PF) money. Furthermore, he claimed that employee association leaders who spoke out against this irregularity faced severe threats from the former government.
Kumar also criticized the YSRCP government for assigning teachers to duties at liquor shops, an act he labeled as deeply embarrassing for the teaching community.
Moreover, Mr. Vijay Kumar highlighted that the previous administration failed to conduct a single DSC (District Selection Committee) test for teacher recruitment. Instead, contracts under the ‘Nadu-Nedu’ scheme were allegedly awarded to individuals closely associated with YSRCP leaders.
Finally, he reminded that the YSRCP government’s promise to abolish the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) remained unfulfilled rhetoric. Mr. Vijay Kumar concluded by stating that Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy owes the employees a comprehensive explanation for these and numerous other problematic policy decisions made during his time in power.
