A brilliant medical graduate from Tamil Nadu recently clinched the second prize at the esteemed BRICS Young Innovator Prize, an international competition held in Brazil last month. Dr. Sakthi Jaya Sundar Rajasekar was a proud member of India’s 11-person delegation, which showcased young scientists and innovators at the 10th BRICS Young Scientist Forum and the 8th BRICS Young Innovator Prize event.
This year’s forum highlighted critical global issues, including strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation, the role of science diplomacy in a shifting global landscape, and innovative applications of artificial intelligence to address societal problems. Rajasekar’s groundbreaking project specifically targeted the urgent challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). His innovative solution involved an artificial intelligence-powered rapid diagnostic system that utilizes single-bacterium nanomotion dynamics to identify and combat AMR effectively.
