In a recent move, the Tamil Nadu government has dramatically increased the monthly remuneration for the Chairman of the State Finance Commission. Just four months after forming the Seventh State Finance Commission, the Chairman’s salary has been hiked from a modest ₹6,500 to a substantial ₹2.25 lakh per month. This change reflects a recent amendment to the Tamil Nadu State Finance Commission Chairman and Other Members (Conditions of Service) Rules, originally established in 1994.
The commission, which was constituted in May of this year, is headed by retired IAS officer K. Allaudin. Alongside him, Tiruppur Mayor N. Dinesh Kumar serves as a non-official member. The ex-officio members include key administrative figures: the Director of Municipal Administration, the Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, and the Commissioner of Town Panchayats. IAS officer Pratik Tayal was appointed as the commission’s member-secretary.
