In a dramatic turn of events, Sheikh Riyaz, the primary suspect in the brutal murder of Constable Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, was shot dead by police on Monday, October 20, 2025. The fatal incident occurred at the Nizamabad Government Hospital, where Riyaz, already in custody, allegedly attempted to disarm an officer and open fire.
Riyaz had been apprehended just a day earlier, on Sunday, October 19, in connection with the murder of 42-year-old Constable Pramod. The constable was tragically stabbed to death on Saturday, October 18, while he was escorting Riyaz to a police station in Nizamabad. Following this heinous crime, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy swiftly initiated a massive manhunt, deploying specialized teams to locate Riyaz.
Nizamabad police reported that prior to his apprehension, Riyaz had attacked an individual named Asif near Sarangapur within the Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station jurisdiction on Sunday. Asif, who was assisting the police in their efforts to capture Riyaz, sustained severe injuries during the violent struggle. Both were subsequently admitted to the hospital for medical attention, after which Riyaz was formally taken into custody.
It was during his treatment at the Nizamabad Government Hospital on Monday that Riyaz allegedly launched another assault on police personnel. During the ensuing confrontation, he managed to seize a weapon from an officer and attempted to discharge it. The police reacted with decisive action, resulting in Riyaz’s death during the exchange.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy officially confirmed Riyaz’s death, emphasizing the Telangana Police’s unwavering commitment to upholding law and order and rigorously pursuing dangerous criminals.
DGP Reddy also expressed profound sorrow and paid tribute to the fallen officer, stating, “The Telangana Police Department extends its deepest respects to the martyred Constable Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, who was brutally murdered by the criminal Sheikh Riyaz. On behalf of the entire department, I honour all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”
In recognition of Constable Pramod’s sacrifice, the DGP announced a significant support package for his family. This includes an ex gratia payment of ₹1 crore, continuation of his last drawn salary until his retirement age, a government job for one family member, and a 300-yard housing plot, facilitated under GO 155. Furthermore, the family will receive an additional ₹16 lakh from the Police Security Welfare fund and ₹8 lakh from the Police Welfare fund.
DGP Reddy affirmed that both the government and the police department are fully committed to providing comprehensive support to Constable Pramod’s wife, Pranitha, and their three young sons.
